Cis Mara Avocado Cooperative Limited was established in 2021 with the core objective of transforming the livelihoods of its members through the collective marketing of avocado produce.
We currently serve a membership base of 1,026 farmers, of whom:
• 65% (698) are men,
• 32% (328) are women, and
• 26% (237) are youth members (comprising 139 males and 98 females).
Our goal is to expand our membership to 1,800 by the end of the current financial year, and to 3,000 members by the end of 2026.

Our Vision
To be home of excellence in avocado value chain
- We have come up with a strategic plan covering 2025-2029 which the board of directors have endorsed for implementation
Our Mission
To maximize members returns on avocado farming through sourcing of high quality true to type Hass seedlings, training members on best farm husbandry, linkage to exporters and other stake holders.
Our Core Values
Equal blame belongs to those who fail in their duty through weakness of will which the same as saying.
- INTEGRITY: Be fair, honest, trustworthy and accountable
- EXCELLENCE: Commitment to customer service through team work, inspiration and adaptability.
- RESPECT: Respect to our communities, colleagues and environment.
- ACCOUNTABILITY: Commitment to ensure that members get value for their effort.
- TEAM WORK: In cis mara we believe that every member holds the key to a better future and therefore we welcome everyone’s views.
- In line with the vision of becoming the leading avocado cooperative society in the region we have a strategic plan as follows.
Current State Analysis.
A current state analysis or environmental scan is a review of everything that impacts CIS Mara cooperative either positively or negatively. It is an exercise to consider all assets and opportunities for CIS Mara cooperative, it also identifies gaps or vulnerabilities that could impede the cooperative success. An environmental scan is always limited- we can never know everything or predict the future, however it is also a useful tool to consider the operating environment that can affect the success the cooperative efforts. It will be used as a basis for risk assessment.
- The environmental scan has been captured well in the strategic plan of the cooperative.

Challenges We Face
• Geographical coverage and poor road infrastructure: Avocados are perishable and must reach the aggregation center within 8 hours after harvest. Delays—sometimes exceeding 12 hours—result in losses. If we had a truck we can actually halved the delays in the field occasioned by lack of reliable means of transport for this reason the board of management have recommended the purchase of a truck as a priority.
•Lack of transport: Without our own vehicle, we rely on third-party logistics, often giving brokers the opportunity to intercept and sell produce faster than we can mobilize transport
•Post-harvest losses: Delays in transport convert Grade 1 fruit into Grade 2 within 24 hours denying farmers premium prices of their produce.
•Interference by brokers/middlemen: These actors exploit our logistical limitations to buy from farmers before our systems can kick in.
•Limited access to certified seedlings
•Pest infestations, which affect crop quality and yield.
Planned Activities
To achieve our goals, we plan to: • Construct the aggregation center on our newly acquired land in Laluk. • Negotiate supply contracts with reputable avocado exporters and off-takers. • Mobilize and build capacity among new and existing members. • Aggregate and distribute at least 50,000 certified seedlings annually. • Procure a lorry to facilitate timely and reliable transportation of produce from farms to the pack house.
Conclusion
• In closing, Cis Mara Avocado Cooperative Limited stands as a beacon of hope and transformation for smallholder farmers in Narok West. Through collective action, member-driven investment, and a shared vision for prosperity, we have already laid a solid foundation for economic empowerment, food security, and sustainable agriculture. • However, to truly unlock the full potential of our members and scale our impact, we urgently need strategic partnerships and targeted investments—particularly in infrastructure, transport, capacity building, and value chain development. • Your support will not only help us overcome the logistical and structural barriers we currently face, but it will also create a lasting legacy of empowerment, dignity, and economic inclusion for over 3,000 farming households. • We are not just growing avocados—we are cultivating futures, restoring livelihoods, and building a resilient rural economy. • On behalf of our members, we invite you to join hands with us in this journey of transformation. • Together, we can turn potential into productivity and dreams into measurable development. • Thank you.
